Мақалада Қазақстан территориясында ежелден қалыптасқан суландыру жүйелерінің пайда болу тарихы мен өзіндік даму сатыларына талдау жасалған. Қазақ тілінде суландыруға қатысты арық, арна, атыз, кәріз, шығыр, тоған т.б. сөздердің қалыптасып, халық арасында қолданылуы қазақ өлкесінде мал шаруашылығымен қатар, егіншіліктің де белгілі бір деңгейде дамығандығын көрсетеді. Бірақ, қазақ даласында егіншілік тек Сырдария, Іле, Ертіс, Талас т.б. сынды үлкен өзендердің бойында дамыды. Аталмыш өзендердің бойында негізінен суармалы егіншілік дамыды. Бұны Қазақстан территориясының жаңбыр аз түсетін аридтік зонаға жататындығымен байланыстыруға болады. Егінге су тарту үшін өзенге арнайы шығыр орнатылады, арық тартылады. Халық арық қазу жұмыстарын дұрыс үйлестіру, егіншілікпен айналысу үшін «төбе» деп аталатын қауымға біріккен. Яғни, қазақ даласында егіншіліктің негізгі обьектісі болатын суландыру жүйелерін пайдаланудың өзіндік әдіс-тәсілдері ежелден қалыптасып, бүгінгі күнге дейін жеткен.
