Мақала Сыр өңірінің белгілі жыршысы Д. Жолымбетов шығармашылығын- дағы стильдік ерекшеліктерді анықтауға арналған. Еңбектің басында қысқаша Сыр бойы музыкалық-эпикалық дәстүрдің зерттелуі және жыршының өмірлік- шығармашылық жолы баяндалады. Әртүрлі өңір эпикалық мектептерінің өнерін меңгерген Д. Жолымбетов шығармашылығының дара ерекшеліктері оның орындауындағы «Асау Барақ» жырының бастапқы мақамы мысалында қарастырылып, сол мақам кең тараған Қармақшы дәстүрінің атақты өкілі – К. Рүстембеков орындауындағы нұсқамен салыстырылады. Мақалада кешенді, құрылымдық және салыстырмалы-типологиялық әдістер қолданылады. Мақамды талдау барысында «Жиенбайдың Жыр бастауы» мен «Асау Барақта» төмендегідей ерекшеліктер анықталды: 1) атқаратын қызметіне байланысты, Д. Жолымбетов және К. Рүстембеков орындауындағы мақам көлемі және музыкалық-поэзиялық құрылымы бойынша ерекшеленеді; 2) қос тұлға орындауындағы мақам нұсқалары арасындағы айырмашылықтар ладтық-әуендік, ырғақтық жүйелер және аспаптық сүйемелдеу партиясының сипатынан да анық байқалады; 3) Д. Жолымбетов орындауындағы мақамда «Бастау әнінің» вокалды кіріспесі, 1, 3, 5, 6 тармақтарының және қайырымының интонациялық келбеті сақталып қалғанымен, импровизациялық жаңару салдарынан, музыкалық жолдардың басым бөлігі вариантты түрленеді.
