Многолетняя практика осуществления торговых связей с соседними странами, позволила накопить определенный опыт организации караванных сообщений. Караванщики, пересекающие суровые и безводные пространства пустынь, были смелыми людьми, хорошими организаторами и прекрасно ориентировались на местности. Не потеряться на огромных пустынных просторах им позволяло умение правильно понимать окружающую природу и подстраиваться под капризы палящего солнца. Умелые проводники должны были хорошо ориентироваться в пустыне как днем, так и ночью. В темное время суток звездное небо являлось единственным ориентиром и прекрасной картой для путников. Эти ориентиры позволяли легче справляться с трудностями длительного перехода и способствовали достижению цели в кратчайшие сроки. Умение человека читать ночное небо и определять при помощи звезд правильное направление маршрута, было важным и необходимым условием успешного завершения караванного мероприятия.
