Работа посвящена насущной теме, совершенно не изученной в туркменской историографии. Речь пойдет о печатях XIX в., точнее перстнях-печатках, активно используемых туркменскими ханами, старшинами и судебными лицами в своей ежедневной практике. Печати издавна употреблялись в туркменском обществе и сохранялись, пусть и в весьма архаичном виде, вплоть до начала XX в.
Для решения поставленной задачи автор использовал весь имеющийся на данный момент материал: отчеты чиновников, дневники путешественников и редкие рисунки, на которых видны оттиски печатей. Определенную пользу в этом направлении окажут археологические находки более ранних времен и имеющаяся в научной литературе их интерпретация. В виду скудности исследовательского материала, для решения поставленной задачи был выбран комплексный метод исследования, как единственно верный и подходящий. Сопоставление документов и сравнительный анализ позволили выявить общие черты, присущие печатям XIX в., но также установить их особенности и функциональное назначение. Рассмотрение печатей как элемента части материальной и духовной культуры туркменского народа, являет собой определенную научную новизну, так как вопрос этот ранее не изучался туркменскими учеными.
