Қазақ қоғамы дамуындағы белгілі бір кезеңнің əлеуметтік-тұрмыстық, рухани, саяси оқиғаларының тамаша бір көркем көрінісі – тарихи жырлар. Халқымыздың басынан өткен небір қилы замандар, түрлі оқиғалар тек ғашықтық жырлар мен батырлар жырын туғызып қана қоймай, көптеген тарихи жырларды да дүниеге əкелді. Мұндай туындылар əсіресе, тарихи үлкен өлшеммен қарағанда бергі кезеңдердегі, яки, ХVIII–ХIХ ғасырларда өмір кешкен қаһармандардың ел мүддесіне өмірін сарп еткен ерлігіне арналған. Тарихи жырларда сөз болатын өзекті мəселе – өмірде нақтылы болған əлеуметтік, саяси оқиғалар. Сол тұрғыда мақалада Шығыс Қазақстан өңіріндегі кеңінен тараған тарихи жырлар сөз болады. Атап айтқанда, «Базар батыр» «Мырзаш батыр», «Барақ батыр, Абылай» жəне «Тобағұл батыр» жырларының жиналуы, жарық көруі, зерттелу барысы туралы баяндалады, ғылыми талдау жасалады.
