This article examines various functional and semantic interpretations of kurgans with stone alignments (so-called kurgan with "mustaches") that have emerged in historiography from the mid-20th century to the present. The views of different researchers are analyzed in the context of current cultural and chronological frameworks. The main functions attributed to these sites are identified, including cult-ancestral, cult-solar, ritual-purification, and festive purposes. It is shown that the most convincing interpretations within the current scholarly paradigm view kurgans with "mustaches" as cult-memorial complexes of early Turkic tribes, associated with the veneration of distinguished deceased individuals and the sacralization of space. The necessity of a comprehensive and critical approach to the interpretation of such monuments is emphasized.
